A pair of old jeans provides an atmosphere of security and a sense of belonging that is about far more than ownership in the legal sense. Since the world’s political climate heated up at the turn of the century, marketers have gone to a lot of trouble to make new jeans look old. That’s what Canberra Dramatics is going to be exploring in the course of its inaugural season.
The inaugural annual season for Canberra Dramatics includes three plays by playwrights from Canberra and the surrounding regions. We seek to augment the efforts of other organisations who encourage the development of new scripts in this city and the surrounding regions, and we plan to be known as the company whose primary objective is to give Canberran playwrights a voice in the theatres of Canberra.
So, we have four stories that we hope will fit Canberra like a pair of old jeans. Opportunities to become involved in presenting these stories to the city abound, and we hope that whether you want to take the journey with us on the inside or on the outside of the fourth wall, that you will find the trip engaging and enlightening.

Never seek to know for whom the bell tolls.
Jesse's life is really not that bad. He's got a good job, a car, and an affectionate girlfriend—even if she is a little too enthusiastic. He's even got a pretty nurse pursuing him, so it's not as if his family and friends should be on the lookout for signs of depression. Even if they did see it, what could they do about it?

Enlist in the sportsmen’s thousand!
Captain Plume has arrived in Shrewsbury to recruit for Her Majesty’s army. His methods may not focus on the glory and heroism of war, but his results speak for themselves, even if he has accidentally recruited for the army the woman he sought to woo for himself.
